After COVID-19 regulations in early 2022 impeded on the long-running local event, floods at the end of the year had the hard-working committee on the edge of their seats.
Work to get the grounds ready for the big event they had planned started soon after the water started subsiding in late November, and the result is showgrounds that for the most part appear never to have been affected at all.
Deniliquin Pastoral & Agricultural Society president Chantelle Shevels said paired with the amazing weather forecast for the weekend, it should be a fantastic few days ahead.
When the Pastoral Times visited yesterday, pavilion stewards were setting out the judging results and sideshow alley was really taking shape.
Other last minute work before competitors and showgoers are welcomed through the gates today were also taking place.
“After having no show last year, everyone is in really high spirits and unfolding what will be another great community event,” Mrs Shevels said.
“Even after two years of COVID and a flood, the Show Society volunteers have a very positive vibe.
“We’re here to support our community by putting on a fun family event, and we look forward to the community supporting us too.
“I do want to thank the committee and the executive of the Show Society for their exceptional hard work.
“It has been a tremendous effort by all.
“I also want to expressly thank Paul Hussey from Edward River Council’s parks and gardens team and his crew for assisting us in having the showgrounds ready.
“And also council director technical service Mark Dalzell and his team for the flood recovery efforts.”
Not just a fun day out for the whole family, the Deniliquin Show is a true country show which offers friendly competitions between local producers and makers.
Make sure to pop in to the pavilion and see whose artistic efforts have been rewarded this year.
Other show competitions include the Demolition Derby, dog show and dog jump, shearing and wool handling competition, livestock judging, giant Atlantic pumpkin competition, horse events, poultry, wool pavilion and the tiny tots and junior judging events.
This weekend the Deniliquin Yard Dog Association also hosts the New South Wales 2023 State Yard Dog Championships at the show, and horse events will also be continuous all weekend.
Aside from the long list of competitions, the show will offer a veritable feast of attractions for the family.
Complementing the popular sideshow alley will be a bar, food sites, live music and a free petting zoo.
Free camel rides will also be offered from noon to 6pm on tomorrow, and don’t miss the carp throwing competition at 5pm.
The Riverina Pro Quick Shear will be held tonight and the Riverina Shearing Championships tomorrow, and the Demolition Derby will kick off from 7.15pm tomorrow.
The canteen will be open all weekend, and a bar available both days.
As always, the event will officially close with a spectacular fireworks display but sideshow alley will remain open into the evening.
A weekend pass to the show is $20 for adults and $5 for children aged five to 15, with children under five receiving free admission. Family tickets, for two adults and three children, are $40.
Tickets can be purchased online at www.deniliquinshow.com.au or at the gate.
