The 2017 Seymour Alternative Farming Expo experienced a record attendance across the three-day event, with more than 20000 visitors and 500 exhibits on display.
This year there was a wide range of displays showing the latest and innovative farming technologies combined with many exciting attractions for the whole family and educational experiences for small to medium acreage farmers.
The expo included three-times whip-cracking world record holder Nathan Griggs; artisan DIY workshops providing interactive sessions in sourdough bread-making, yoghurt-making and cheese-making; permaculture and raising chooks.
Further entertainment included chainsaw carvers, demonstrations in the Country Kitchen and Butcher Shop, Farmer Darryl and his farmyard, the ‘snake man’ and tiny house displays.
Seymour Agricultural Society provided informative lectures in agriculture and alternative livestock, ensuring those interested in farming were provided with key information.
To complement the lectures, visitors could wander the cattle yards and engage directly with livestock breeders.
In the Alternative Learning Hub, the GOTAFE Short Talks provided advice on how to run a sustainable farming enterprise, with information on solar power, backyard beekeeping, innovative building techniques and other relevant sustainability skills.
Event manager Susie Filleti thanked the community for its continued support.
‘‘We recognise the tremendous contribution our event offers to the local economy and community groups and are delighted to be a part of that,’’ Ms Filleti said.
Next year’s event will be held from February 16 to 18.
