Campaspe Mayor Adrian Weston said a routine maintenance inspection by council staff found structural defects on Fox Road.

Campaspe Shire Council has instigated a 40km/h speed limit and two-tonne weight limit on Fox Island Rd, Gunbower after structural defects in the bridge were discovered.

Campaspe Mayor Adrian Weston said a routine maintenance inspection by council staff found structural defects.

The restrictions will remain in place until a full inspection of the bridge occurs.

‘‘This means that while a standard car and motorbikes can use the bridge, vehicles such as trucks, milk tankers, cars with trailers and farm machinery cannot,’’ Cr Weston said.

‘‘Our main priority is to keep the bridge open for the community.

‘‘Once we receive data back from the full inspection, we will then be in a position to determine the most appropriate works to keep the bridge operational into the future.’’

Council said it had attempted to contact all those potentially impacted by the new load and speed restrictions, and that detours have been put in place for vehicles exceeding the two-tonne weight limit.
