An updated control system is on the way for Torrumbarry Weir.
The control system monitors and manages water levels and flows, while also providing crucial data about the structure and other aspects of the river.
Work will start this month to install the new system, bringing in current technology to ensure continued reliability of the weir.
The new technology also provides increased functionality, including the ability to operate the structure remotely.
The weir’s CCTV system will also be improved, providing Goulburn-Murray Water staff greater visibility of the weir and immediate surrounding areas.
‘‘We expect there will only be short periods of time during June and July when access for visitors to the weir may be restricted by this work,’’ G-MW regional manager west Phil Hoare said.
‘‘On these occasions, access to the structure will be closed to the public, however, all other areas will remain open including the boat ramp and visitors’ centre,’’ he said.
People are asked to be mindful of the upgrade works, especially with heavy machinery and trucks in the vicinity.
Work is due to finish in August.
