  • Federal Court orders former agriculture minister to hand over emails

Former federal agriculture minister Joe Ludwig has been ordered to hand over communication around the 2011 live export ban.

Former agriculture minister Joe Ludwig has been ordered by the Federal Court to hand over private and internal emails and text messages surrounding the 2011 live export ban, as part of a $600 million class action suit against the government.

Mr Ludwig has been accused by law firm Minter Ellison of concealing his involvement in the 2011 live export ban by using personal email accounts to conduct conversations with staff about the ban.

The allegations come as part of the suit led by Brett Cattle Company against the government for a six month ban on live exports to Indonesia, which was implemented five days after the airing of an Four Corners episode into the mistreatment of live export cattle and resulted in loss of income for a number of farmers.
