Goulburn-Murray Water (GMW) is asking families and groups planning a visit to one of our lakes, dams and reservoirs this Easter to have a great time, but play by the rules.

General Manager Customer Operations Scott Barber said waterways and surrounding areas were popular spots during Easter for those wishing to visit or stay in local accommodation.

“We wish to remind visitors that camping is only allowed in commercial caravan parks and designated camping areas,” he said.

“From time to time we have visitors who camp on GMW foreshore areas – however this is actually an unauthorised activity and poses an issue for water quality due to the dumping of rubbish and potential for the outbreak of fire.”

Campfires are prohibited and visitors are required to take any rubbish home with them following their visit to a recreational area.

“These rules are in place for good reason, and conditions have been a little drier of late with some local fire restrictions still in place. We want everyone to have a great Easter – and that means we ask everyone to know and play by the rules,” Mr Barber said.

For information about where you can camp visit Parks Victoria at www.parkweb.vic.gov.au or phone 13 19 63. You can also contact the local tourist information centre for information on accommodation.
