More people can have a say in the region’s agricultural planning, with Campaspe Shire Council reopening applications for Farming Advisory Committee membership.

The committee assists council by vetting planning applications for subdivisions and dwellings in the farming zone and rural activity zone in Campaspe Shire.

Campaspe planning and building manager Andrew Fletcher said the committee allowed locals to play a vital role in shaping the shire’s agricultural sector.

‘‘The committee is an opportunity for council officers to draw on the wealth of knowledge and diverse experience that exists within our community,’’ Mr Fletcher said.

‘‘(Its) views and opinions will help council to make well-informed planning decisions that support our agricultural sector and ensure it continues to thrive and grow into the long-term future.’’

Established about two years ago, the committee has played a key role in reviewing applications.

Nominations from Campaspe residents with a diverse range of knowledge and experience in farming will be accepted by council until May 5.

To obtain a nomination form, including the membership criteria, go to council’s website at: www.campaspe.vic.gov.au
