A Cobram orchard business is embarking on a $900000 expansion which will further develop its export capacity and employ more people.

JV Orchards is a supplier of fresh apples, pears, peaches, nectarines and lemons with a market mostly across the east coast of Australia.

The company is owned and operated by brothers Joe and John Ventre, with Joe’s son Anthony also joining the business.

Joe Ventre said the project would be an expansion to shedding and coolstore capacity.

‘‘We’re really excited to be able to expand and employ more people.’’

Mr Ventre said the expansion would also allow them to further explore export opportunities, particularly to the Asian market following the China Australia Free Trade Agreement signed in 2015.

‘‘We’ve done a bit of export this year, which has been quite good,’’ he said.

The investment will continue the growth of the family business, which transformed from a cannery operation to its current fresh fruit operation, including an increased land area.
