A scholarship named in honour of a young horse rider who died in a riding accident five years ago will be the showcase of the Tatura Dressage Classic in August.

The scholarship, titled the Tatura Football and Netball Club’s Taylor Farley Youth Development Scholarship, is being awarded for the sixth year.

Tatura Dressage Classic event director Sue Terry said many from Ms Farley’s age group, including Ms Farley herself, were potential candidates when the scholarship was first awarded.

‘‘It’s not a scholarship in memoriam, her family lent her name (to the scholarship),’’ Ms Terry said.

The scholarship is open to any participant aged between 14 and 21 who competes in the three Olympic disciplines: dressage, showjumping and eventing.

The up-and-coming rider who wins the scholarship takes home $500 to assist with their development.
