G-MW groundwater and streams manager Matt Pethybridge said the purpose of the draft plan was to ensure the future sustainability of water in the region.

A plan to protect groundwater resources in a region stretching from the Great Dividing Range near Wallan to the Murray River at Barmah is now open for public comment.

Public drop-in sessions and feedback forms have been organised to encourage community input into the draft West Goulburn Groundwater Management Area Local Management Plan.

The plan has been developed by Goulburn-Murray Water with input from groundwater users and other key stakeholders in the region, which includes Kilmore, Broadford, Rushworth and Kyabram.

‘‘The draft plan’s purpose is to ensure the future sustainability of water in the region,’’ G-MW groundwater and streams manager Matt Pethybridge said.

‘‘It includes rules to prevent the development of intense areas of groundwater use while also providing for the transfer of licence entitlement within the region.

‘‘Groundwater users and the public are encouraged to provide feedback to ensure the plan meets their needs.’’

A copy of the draft plan and a feedback form are available for download at www.gmwater.com.au/west-goulburn-gma
