Applications are now open for the 2017 Dairy Youth Travel Scholarship with up to $10000 on offer for those in the dairy industry looking to travel abroad.
Offered as part of this year’s Royal Melbourne Show Dairy Competition, the scholarship is open to those aged 18 to 30 who would like to develop their career in the industry.
The scholarship covers an escorted agricultural tour with an emphasis on dairy or a visit to a dairy region in Asia, New Zealand or the United States.
Last year’s winner of the scholarship, Katie Anderson of Yarroweyah, said winning the scholarship was ‘‘very exciting’’.
‘‘I will be heading to World Dairy Expo and then to the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair in Canada, which will allow me to see some of the best dairy cattle and farm operations in the world,’’ she said.
To be eligible for the scholarship, entrants are required to submit a 1000 word essay or a four-minute video introducing themselves and their current involvement in the dairy industry, outlining their personal career aspirations and what they see as future opportunities in genetics, international trade or the environment in Australia.
Applicants are also asked to include a high resolution image of themselves working with dairy cattle.
Shortlisted applicants will be required to attend an interview with Royal Agricultural Society of Victoria staff and industry representatives on Wednesday, September 27, with the scholarship winner announced the following day.
To be eligible individuals must participate as a handler or exhibitor in their own right at the All Breeds Elite Dairy Heifer Show or the Dairy Youth Handlers Classic at the 2017 Royal Melbourne Show.
Entries for the competition will close on Friday, August 18.
