  • Bridge is right for another 50 years

The Heath Road bridge in Harston, 14km south east of Tatura, has undergone refurbishment.

The Heath Rd bridge in Harston has received a new lease on life following $120000 in refurbishment works as part of Goulburn-Murray Water’s winter works program.

The bridge crosses the Central Goulburn number eight channel and G-MW field supervisor Jamie Talbot said the centre pier required replacing.

The process involves de-watering the channel, installing a cofferdam, or temporary dam, and remove the silt and mud with an excavator.

A crane has been on the site in recent days to life the bridge beams back into position following the pier works, before grout will be poured on the bridge deck.

‘‘We’re utilising the old structure to put everything back together,’’ Mr Talbot said.

‘‘This is a great option because the bridge would have cost $350000 to replace. So this is a cost-effective way of carrying out this work.’’

The works are expected to extend the life of the bridge for another 50 years.
