When nearly half of Shepparton was told to isolate immediately due to an outbreak of COVID-19, petals were unfurling across the region — signalling that at least better weather should be on the way.
Peaches, plums and cherry blossoms are all part of the Rosacea family.
Rosacea also contains heavyweights such as roses, apricots and almonds.
Almond trees are among the first to flower after winter and are quickly followed by their close cousins in orchards and gardens across Victoria.
Cherry blossom trees (not to be confused with fruiting cherry trees) are the next to break out into colour before being quickly followed by plum trees while the weather is still cold.
If there is a severe frost while the blossoms are out it’s likely the flowers will drop and fail to turn into fruit.
