This year’s Royal Melbourne Show Dairy Cattle Competition has left organisers with smiles on their faces, with Dairy Committee member Ricky Ferris labelling the event ‘‘really strong’’.

‘‘It was a really good event. We had strong numbers with around 60 head of cattle entered and some really strong competition with a lot of good heifers and good young cows,’’ Mr Ferris said.

‘‘The judging by Matthew Templeton was fantastic and everyone did a wonderful job.’’

This year welcomed back two milking classes to the competition schedule and Mr Ferris said he hoped the exhibitors would continue to support the milking events to allow them to be held each year.

With good crowds throughout the day last Thursday, Mr Ferris said it was great to see people from around the state supporting the competition.

‘‘It always helps when you have top notch cattle and better heifers getting around.

‘‘The guys came out and brought their best heifers, and the milkers were exceptional.

‘‘It really helps when you have one of the best internationally renowned judges from the area to judge the competition.

‘‘It all contributes to people wanting to bring their cattle out.’’
