Moira Shire's new drought relief officer Sally Rice is the first to admit things don't always work out the way you planned.
Ms Rice, previously a fruit grower at Swan Hill, moved to Bundalong late last year because of her husband's work commitments, only for him to lose his job because of the drought.
She took up the Victorian Governmentfunding position with Moira Shire Council in December, which she has combined with part-time community development work.
Ms Rice is supervised by Moira Shire Drought Social Recovery Committee, chaired by Kaye Thomson.
The group is operating in Moira Shire with the aim of building a stronger community through communication and growth.
Ms Rice said her drought relief position was still evolving, but her main role was to act as a link between the services available and the people who need them.
"For example, I had a lady from CWA ring me this morning about a barbecue they had that raised $700," Ms Rice said.
"She wanted to make toiletries packs for drought affected people and I was able to say how I think they should distribute it."
Last week Ms Rice sent a mail-out to community groups, businesses, clubs and Moira Shire community members informing them of the services available to people in need.
