In a huge win for farmers, the Federal Government has decided to exclude agricultural emissions permanently from its proposed emissions trading scheme.

The government backed down on the issue on the weekend after intense lobbying from farming groups and the Opposition.

Initially, it intended to exclude agriculture until 2015 and make a decision about its involvement after that in 2013.
