DONATIONS FOR FIRE RAVAGED AREA:

Hay and silage is being donated to farmers affected by bushfires in Victoria’s south-west, with farmers from across the state participating in hay runs. Fires broke-out amid strong winds and unusually warm and dry weather on March 17, with more than 60 sheds, 26 houses and thousands of livestock lost in blazes around Terang, Cobden, Penshurst and Camperdown.

TESLA BATTERY NEAR KERANG:

The Gannawarra Solar Farm, west of Kerang, will be home to a Tesla battery which will store power produced from the 60MW solar structure. The storage facility will allow power to be used more flexibly, including during non-sunlight hours.

FUNDING FOR THE GV:

Ten projects totalling more than $118million have been announced for the Shepparton region, with agricultural companies among those set to benefit from the financial injection. Ardmona’s Plunkett Orchards and Turnbull Brothers Orchards have received substantial funding, as did Shepparton’s Rubicon Water and Radnor Corp’s Stanhope rice milling facility.

HALF YEAR LOSS FOR FONTERRA NZ:

Fonterra New Zealand has registered a half year loss of $NZ348million after it slashed $NZ405million off the value of its investment in Beingmate Baby Child Food, calling the performance of its Chinese partner ‘‘unacceptable’’. Fonterra chair John Wilson said shareholders and unit holders would ‘‘be rightfully disappointed with this outcome’’.
