Colourful murals on show at the Rochester Mural Festival

By Alana Christensen

The Rochester Mural Festival is under way again, with artists from across the country travelling to the town to complete artworks.

The paint-off, which started on Saturday,  will see the eight invited artists paint their large murals until ‘brushes down’ on Friday, March 1.

Coming from as far away as Western Australia and Queensland, the exact designs remained under wraps until they were unveiled on Friday.

This year’s theme is Our Country Life, with the public able to wander along the Mural Park’s new path and chat with the artists throughout the paint-off, with an exhibition and art sale held at the  Historical Court House, catered by the local Country Women’s’ Association.

All artworks except the winning mural are for sale, including the large murals and the artists’ mini murals.

The winner will be announced at noon on Saturday, March 2.

The 2019 Rochester Mural Festival will be held until Saturday, March 2 at Mural Park between Moore St and the Northern Hwy, from the railway station and the hospital.
