Dairy farming kids — Kaitlyn Wishart from Mead, Emily Robins from Cohuna and Chelsea Hicks from Calivil — will all receive a $10 000 scholarship for the next three years of their tertiary schooling.
Kaitlyn was awarded the Bill Pyle Scholarship to study a Bachelor of Agribusiness at La Trobe University, Bendigo.
She plans to have a career in agribusiness, assisting and empowering agricultural businesses to become more viable and sustainable.
Chelsea was awarded the Niel «« correct »» Black Scholarship and will undertake a Bachelor of Nursing/Bachelor of Midwifery (double degree) at La Trobe University, Bendigo.
Emily was awarded the Doug Weir Scholarship and will undertake a Bachelor of Commerce/Bachelor of Agricultural Science (double degree) at La Trobe University, Bundoora.
She has a passion for dairy cows and elite breeding and plans to work in the dairy industry as an adviser helping dairy farmers make sustainable technical and financial decisions in a rapidly changing world.
Gardiner Dairy Foundation chief executive Clive Noble said the scholarships were an important investment in the foundation’s People and Community Development portfolio.
They help rural students who face high living away from home costs.
“These scholarships help overcome some of the barriers to obtaining a tertiary education, such as travel and accommodation,” Dr Noble said.
The scholarships are awarded to students from dairy areas who undertake studies that have the potential to benefit the Victorian dairy industry or dairy communities in the future.
Applications for 2021 tertiary scholarships will open in August.
