Presented by the Australia Fodder Industry Association, the July 29 to 31 conference will be held at the Crowne Plaza in the Hunter Valley in NSW.
The theme of ‘Our Place’ pays homage to the conference’s most popular conference session in which local growers of their chosen location are invited to share their experiences farming the land.
The three-day event will include a range of hay and silage workshops, machinery and trade exhibits and talks.
National Farmers Federation president Fiona Simson, managing director of farming platform Farm Table Airlie Landale and Professor of Plant Science at New Zealand’s Lincoln University Derrick Moot will be among those speaking at the conference.
Farmers for Climate Change’s Lucinda Corrigan, NSW DPI’s Greg Brook, Dairy Australia’s Sofia Omstedt and Co-ordinator-General for Drought Major-General Stephen Day will also speak at the conference.
Sessions include a look at fodder market economics including the financial merits of growing export hay and compare profitability with other grain grower enterprises, and a presentation on fodder, including New Zealand research from the dryland pastures research team, which aims to create farm systems that are resilient to climate change, particularly in dry eastern regions of New Zealand.
The drought will be a key feature of the event, with organisers hoping to celebrate and support producers who are adapting, creating and championing positive change in the industry.
