Two two-month-old calves which sold for $5000 each were the highlight of the Goulburn Murray Jersey Breeders Club Diamond Jubilee Sale.

The sale, which was part of the 60th anniversary of the club, was held on Thursday and Dairy Livestock Services auctioneer Brian Leslie said it exceeded expectations.

‘‘There was some outstanding cattle with some tremendous genetics and it (the sale) exceeded expectations,’’ he said.

‘‘It was very successful. It went off really well.’’

Twenty-six of the 28 cattle sold for a gross value of $110350 at an average of $4245.

The top priced cow, Warrain Irwin Empress, sold for $8500, while Katandra Park Valentino Vanessa 8 sold for the second top price of $8400 and Broadlin Illusin 3341 and Jugiong Petunia 6818 sold for the equal third top price of $6500.

The cows up for sale came from Victoria, NSW, South Australia and Western Australia.
