Delegates at this year’s Dairy Research Foundation Symposium will hear about the use of new technologies such as drones and virtual fencing on dairy farms.

Foundation director Professor Yani Garcia said the theme of the 2018 event, to be held on July 17 and 18, was ‘Revitalising dairy production through innovation and better management’.

‘‘It’s a fabulous opportunity to hear about ways the dairy industry can keep pace with the new opportunities and changing consumer expectations,’’ Prof Garcia said.

He said the symposium had an exciting line-up of international and local guest speakers.

The popular farm day will be held at Leppington Pastoral Company, Bringelly, south-west of Sydney, and will be hosted by the Perich family.

Highlights of the event include:

■drones over pastures;

■virtual fencing;

■advanced data-driven irrigation;

■profitability of reducing methane in dairy farms;

■lifting the game with animal food production;

■calf rearing; and

■innovation in dairy.

The Dairy Research Foundation Symposium will be held on Tuesday, July 17 and Wednesday, July 18 in Camden, NSW.
