Rams up for auction

By Country News

The first on-farm sale of the Longwood-based Hynam Poll Merino stud will be held later this week.

Stud owner Kevin Hynam said 50 rams would be up for sale, with the majority being paddock run.

‘‘Forty on offer have been paddock run and are all natural so people will be able see what they have done in this environment,’’ he said.

‘‘They all have great elite wools and meaty carcases to suit the meat trade.

‘‘We look for sheep with long staple wool, with great style, that are wide and meaty with a correct structure.

‘‘Our adult sheep are testing under 20 micron.’’

Despite it being the first on-farm sale for the Hynams, they have been successful at multi-vendor sales.

‘‘We’ve taken rams to multi-vendor sales in Bendigo, Hamilton, Benalla and Murray Bridge with a successful result at Murray Bridge selling our top ram for $6500,’’ Mr Hynam said.

‘‘We’ve been using genetic sires from Wallaloo Park, Forest Springs and Ridge Way Advance.’’

■The Hynam Poll Merino sale will be held at 643 Carmodys Rd, Longwood on Friday, September 21, with inspection from 10am and the sale starting at 1pm.
