Shepparton Regional Saleyards’ new management company will take over from this week.
Although the property is owned by Greater Shepparton City Council, Brendan Carey’s company Scanclear will now have the management role.
Mr Carey said he didn’t expect to be making any sudden changes and was retaining the existing staff.
He said the yards were physically as good as any other country centre and the place had a reputation as one of the strongest cow markets in the state.
Mr Carey said managing a yard meant trying to ensure the sales ran smoothly and as far as possible trying to keep the diverse stakeholders happy.
‘‘There are agents, vendors, farmers, buyers; and across that you have animal welfare issues.
‘‘That’s something we have to be aware of and try to maintain the highest standards,’’ he said.
‘‘We want animals in the best condition coming onto the market.’’
Scanclear manages three other yards and works in about 25 other centres across several states.
