The Victorian Government has established a planning support program to assist small-scale pig and poultry producers obtain a land use planning permit under the 2018 planning reforms for animal industries.
The support program includes workshops to help producers prepare their planning permit application and identify on-farm works, advice and other activities that may be required to support the application.
The workshops will also provide producers with information on how to manage environmental, amenity and biosecurity risks.
A series of grants up to $3000 have been introduced to help producers with costs related to obtaining a land use planning permit, but producers must attend a workshop to be eligible for a grant.
The program is open to small-scale pig producers with less than or equal to 150 sows or 1000 standard pig units, and poultry producers with less than or equal to 5000 poultry for egg enterprises or 10000 for meat enterprises, who are seeking a land use planning permit.
Several workshops will be delivered across regional Victoria to support proposed and existing small-scale pig and poultry producers prepare a land use planning permit application.
The workshops are free to existing small-scale pig and poultry producers and producers proposing to establish a small-scale pig or poultry farm.
The Benalla workshop will be held from 9.30am to 3.30am on Tuesday, February 12 and a workshop will be held in Tatura from 9.30am to 3.30pm on Wednesday, March 13.
