MORE SOLAR FARMS:

Girgarre, Lancaster, Moama and Corowa could be the next places for solar farms across northern Victoria and the southern Riverina, with applications for all four in the hands of their respective councils. These four submissions are part of a list of 20 that are seeking to be approved across the region.

SECOND SILO PAINTED:

Work began on the Goorambat silo last week, with street artist DVate starting work on a barking owl on the concrete silo. The owl will be joined by a country scene on a nearby metal silo, with the artwork due to be completed for the launch of the Wall to Wall Festival on Friday.

SAPUTO DEAL CONCERNS:

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission has voiced concerns about what the proposed Murray Goulburn and Saputo deal could mean for milk supply in Victoria’s west. The ACCC’s final decision on the deal is due on March 29.

OVERSUPPLY DRIVES PRICES DOWN:

Growers and the fruit industry are facing falling pear prices, with supermarkets selling produce for as little as $1/kg. Apple and Pear Australia Ltd said growers were struggling with some of the lowest farm gate prices the industry could recall.

NATIONALS SHAKE-UP:

Nationals MPs Darren Chester and Keith Pitt have been returned to the Turnbull Government frontbench in the wake of Michael McCormack’s leadership win. Member for Murray Damian Drum lost his role as assistant to the deputy prime minister and will go to the backbench.
