Solar farms continue to grow in northern Victoria and the southern Riverina, with Girgarre, Lancaster, Moama and Corowa the next crop of towns to have proposals submitted.
The Girgarre farm, if given the go ahead, will be at 1083 Mason Rd and will cover 255ha, power up to 118MW and cost between $120million and $150million.
Leeson Group, which is also proposing a solar farm near Cohuna, decided on the site because of a number of factors.
‘‘It’s near electricity infrastructure, it’s on flat land, there’s good drainage and it will have minimal impact to agricultural land and is not near too many houses,’’ managing director Peter Leeson said.
During construction 160 jobs will be created with 10 jobs ongoing during operation.
This is not the only proposal the Campaspe Shire Council has received, with ESCO Pacific responsible for a proposal for 1106 Park Rd, Lancaster.
This site is expected to cost $110million and will produce 100MW across 172ha. This output will be the equivalent of powering about 34000 homes.
In addition to these applications, Moama and Corowa also look set to be part of a growing list of solar projects.
Both are set to cover about 80ha, produce just below 30MW and power more than 8000 houses.
