SOLAR FARM PANEL:

The Victorian Planning Minister has announced a three-person panel to decide the future of four solar farms in the City of Greater Shepparton. A public hearing is scheduled for May 14 to 18.

BASIN PLAN BITES:

New community profiles released by the Murray-Darling Basin Authority show the economic impact of water recovery under the Murray-Darling Basin Plan.

The loss of water in many communities in northern Victoria and southern Riverina has cut dairy production and reduced the land area under irrigation.

CONCERNS SHARED:

The South Australian Royal Commission into the Murray-Darling Basin Plan heard concerns about future water recovery in the Goulburn Murray Irrigation District at a community consultation in Shepparton on Thursday. Environmentalists, water leaders and irrigators voiced their fears about the plan, calling for more certainty.

AMENDMENTS VOTE:

A suite of 36 projects that would return 605Gl of water to the consumptive pool are set to go to the Senate on Tuesday. But two reports have raised concerns the amendments are unlawful. The Sustainable Diversion Limit adjustment mechanisms, an amendment to the Murray-Darling Basin Plan, are expected to be approved by the Coalition and Labor Party, despite objections by the Greens.

LITTLEPROUD VISIT:

Federal Agriculture and Water Minister David Littleproud visited the Goulburn Valley last week. While on a tour of ACM’s construction site at Girgarre, Mr Littleproud spoke about live exports and slammed Labor after it walked away from a bi-partisan agreement on the issue. Labor now wants live exports banned, two weeks before a review into the industry was to be completed.
