DAIRY SALE A SUCCESS:

The Goulburn Murray Jersey Breeders Club held a sale last week, with 26 of 28 cows selling for a gross price of $110350. The sale was part of celebrations for the club’s 60th anniversary.

TATURA BUSINESS EXPANDS:

A $10million dollar expansion of hydroponic tomato facility Tatura Fresh will see the company more than double its production capacity and create 52 jobs. The expansion of the Midland Hwy facility has seen an additional 4.8ha of glasshouse built.

IRRIGATORS TAKE A BUS TO CANBERRA:

Irrigators are planning to take buses to Canberra on Thursday to make a point at the national water ministers’ conference on Friday. The Speak Up Campaign is organising the rally to protest at the loss of any further water under the Murray-Darling Basin Plan.

KATUNGA TOMATOES GET FUNDING BOOST:

The town of Katunga has benefited from increased investment, with a 4ha facility built at Katunga Fresh Group’s Numurkah Rd property. The $10million investment has created the equivalent of 40 new full-time jobs, with the newest glasshouse increasing production by 25 per cent.

FONTERRA ANNOUNCES CLOSING PRICE:

Milk processor Fonterra Australia is forecasting a closing price of between $5.50 and $6.20/kg of milk solids for the end of the 2018-19 season.

The company has yet to announce an opening price, but says it should be known in the coming weeks.
