Young auctioneer wins bid

Elders Euroa auctioneer Joe Allen is the winner of the 2018 Australian Livestock & Property Agents Association Victorian Young Auctioneers Competition, after finishing runner-up in last year’s event.

Mr Allen said he was ‘‘pleasantly surprised’’ to hear his name called out at the event held at Pakenham on September 10.

‘‘It was good to get across the line,’’ he said.

As was the case last year when he finished runner-up, Mr Allen will head to the Royal Sydney Easter Show to compete in the national competition, with a chance to represent Australia at the international competition for the winner.

Joining Mr Allen at the national show will be Joshua McDonald from SKB Rodwells, Warrnambool, who took out second place in the Victorian final.

The 10 competitors were judged on their clarity, diction and the difference between their asking price and the price the cattle actually sold for, with the smaller the difference, the better.

Mr Allen said he took plenty out of the experience and was looking forward to competing on the national stage.

‘‘It’s all about the experience and networking with other agents is one of the (main) positives.’’
