Experienced dog trialler Jim Dodge from Ross Creek, near Ballarat, took out first place in the DogPro Rochester Working Sheep Dog Trials which wrapped up at the weekend.
He took his dog Paton’s Cooper through the obstacles in fine form, shutting the final gate on a first round score of 86 and a second round of 92.
Second placed was Geoff Gibson from Queensland with his dog, Gibson’s Linc.
There were about 130 entries in this year’s Rochester event, run for the third time over three days and finishing on Sunday.
Co-ordinator Des Church said the weather held well for the first two days but clouded over on Sunday and a wind sprang up.
He was pleased with the standard of entries and also with the crowd which turned out to watch the owners and their dogs put the sheep through four obstacles at Rochester Recreation Reserve.
Winner of the Improver section was Jeff Gibson with Gibson Toy, recording a first round of 80 and a second round of 64.
Novice winner was Barry Paton from Koroit with Talens Sunshine, recording 84 and 79 points.
Farmers section winner was Brad Clark from NSW with Roseneath Banjo.
■The next Working Sheep Dog Trials will be held at Nathalia on October 5 and 6.
