GV GROUP ACTS ON WATER TESTS:

The Goulburn Murray Irrigation District Water Leadership Group has developed four questions that can be applied to any new water recovery projects for the Murray-Darling Basin Plan.

The Murray-Darling Basin Authority is seeking to recover 450Gl of ‘upwater’ for the basin, but governments have agreed that this must not cause any negative socio-economic impacts.

The leadership group has been waiting for the governments to develop a policy on how to measure the impacts.

LITTLE RELIEF FOR HAY PRICES:

Hay prices continue to climb, with hay produced this season expected to offer little relief as a result of low quantities.

Prices in the Goulburn Valley and Murray Valley are currently more than double the five-year average according to Dairy Australia figures.

IRRIGATORS TO BE HEARD:

The Productivity Commission will hear responses to its recent five-year assessment of the Murray-Darling Basin Plan at the Parklake Hotel in Shepparton from 8.30am on Wednesday.

The report was highly critical of the leadership of the plan and called for a ‘‘return to good management’’.
