Salami makers vie for top title

By Country News

The 13th Tatura salami competition was held on October 6 and attracted contestants from across Victoria, with a shortlist of 21 entrants all vying for the coveted title.

Hosted by Tatura Italian Social Club, judges and local salami experts Mario Borelli, Rick Brun, Tony Mercuri and Sam Saccuzzo scored the meat in the four categories — appearance, texture, aroma and taste.

The group said the task had been a difficult one given the high standard of salami in the competition.

After assessing the four elements, the judges awarded first place to Cos Interno from Melbourne, with a score of 125 points.

Club president Nello Giansiracusa congratulated Mr Interno on being the salami champion for 2018 and praised runner-up Lou Serra and Tony and Adam Basile and Lina Minutoli in equal third.

Following the presentation, patrons were invited to taste all the salami and make their judgment, sparking the possibility of a people’s choice prize to be included in the 2019 competition.
