LITTLEPROUD VISITS:

Federal Agriculture and Water Minister David Littleproud has been hearing concerns about the Murray-Darling Basin Plan, visiting farmers and community groups in Shepparton and Deniliquin last week. The 450Gl of ‘up-water’ was a key focus of his visit, with people pleading for him to stop more water being taken from the region.

DAIRY FARMERS FACE TOUGH TIMES:

High feed and water prices and tough weather conditions have taken their toll, with this season’s milk production expected to fall by eight billion litres. Dairy Australia’s Dairy Situation and Outlook report for October points towards a five to seven per cent milk production shortfall on last year’s production levels.

ELECTION DEBATE:

The VFF is hosting a Victorian election debate with the candidates for the seat of Shepparton on Wednesday, November 7 from 6.30pm. While the VFF’s election wish list will be on the agenda, candidates are keen to discuss a number of topics, with water on the top of the list.

MURRAY DAIRY CHANGES:

Karen Moroney, from the Mitta Valley, will take on the job of Murray Dairy chair, stepping up from her role as deputy chair which she has held for the past three years. Replacing her as deputy chair is Tony McCarthy, of Dhurringile, and Andrew Tyler, of Tongala.

COOMBOONA DAIRIES SOLD:

A company associated with Freedom Foods has purchased the large Coomboona Dairies operation near Undera. Coomboona Dairies, part-owned by businessman Gerry Harvey, was placed in voluntary receivership earlier this year.
