UDV BOSS STEPS DOWN:
UDV president Adam Jenkins has stood down from the position. The UDV Policy Council will fill the role of president as a casual vacancy at its meeting on December 5 and it is expected the UDV Policy Council will call for an election for the president in May next year.
ANTHRAX IN SWAN HILL:
A case of anthrax was identified on a property at Swan Hill on November 17.
All sheep on the affected property were vaccinated and appropriate disposals had taken place.
WOMEN IN AG FORUM:
Community members will come together in Shepparton to discuss gender equality in agribusiness at the Women in Agribusiness Forum on November 28. A panel of agribusiness professionals will be discussing the personal and systemic challenges of working in a male dominated industry.
The Victorian state election was held on Saturday with Labor set for a resounding victory. All of the northern Victoria electorates’ sitting members look likely to hold their seats, while two members of the Legislative Council are expected to change.
BASIN WOES ONGOING:
After six years of the Murray-Darling Basin Plan, irrigators say it is the ongoing drought that is truly showing the effects of the plan, with the impact of water recovery hitting local communities and farmers hard. The Murray-Darling Basin Authority says drought affects rivers too, and everyone must stay the course of the plan.
