FARMERS RALLY:

More than 200 farmers marched through the streets of Melbourne on Friday, calling for no more water recovery from the southern Riverina and northern Victoria.

Murray-Darling Basin ministers agreed on Friday afternoon to implementing a community-wide assessment of the socio-economic effects of water recovery.

NEW MINISTER:

The recently elected Member for Northern Victoria Jaclyn Symes has been appointed as the Victorian agriculture minister, taking over from the first female agriculture minister, Jaala Pulford.

Rochester’s Restdown Pastoral was again recognised as the top Brown Swiss herd in the ABV release, with Dingee’s Ben Govett’s herd ranked second.

CROP OUTPUT PLUMMETS:

Victorian crop production is expect to decrease by 51 per cent this season, as thousands of hectares of wheat and canola are cut for hay.

The grim seasonal outlook was delivered in the Australian Bureau of Agricultural and Resource Economics and Sciences’ December crop report.
