It seems to have been a big week in the water for people named Jason.
The story about Jason Caddaye and his monster cod was almost replicated by another local angler — Jason Naylor.
Understandably he was grinning from ear to ear when he reeled in this 88cm Murray cod recently.
Mr Naylor caught the whopper at the end of Casey Rd, Echuca, on a StumpJumper lure while fishing with mate Jarrod Thomas, who caught a 40cm fish as well.
‘‘It swam away beautifully to fight another day,’’ Mr Naylor said.
‘‘It was great to see healthy fish like that in our river system.’’
Fisheries departments from Queensland to South Australia have been actively restocking river systems with Murray cod and perch, and although big fish like these have been around a little longer it augurs well for the sport of fishing for generations to come.
