A Speak Up rally was held on Monday morning for farmers to express their concerns about water allocation in the Murray Valley region.
Edward River Council Mayor Norm Brennan said farmers currently had no allocation in the area, making it even more difficult to grow crops during drought.
‘‘Winter crops might be saved,’’ he said.
‘‘But water in the system means farmers can start planting spring crops straight away, meaning they will have crops, fodder and feed for spring and summer.’’
Speaking ahead of the event in Deniliquin, Mr Brennan said he hoped 400 people would attend the rally, which was being used to send a strong message to water allocation decision makers.
