Apology for taking water

By Country News

The case of an unauthorised water take near Numurkah has been resolved.

Between two and three megalitres of water destined for environmental flows was alleged to have been taken from Kinnairds Wetland.

Goulburn-Murray Water was alerted to the alleged take on September 23 by the Goulburn Broken Catchment Management Authority, following a report to that organisation made by a member of the public.

G-MW’s compliance and enforcement manager investigated the matter directly with the landholder and reported the incident accordingly.

The landholder was unaware of an unauthorised take and has since apologised. They also asked to be informed if and when another environmental flow was planned.

G-MW said if another breach occurred, no further warning would be provided.
