The VFF will host a number of irrigator workshops across the region from next week to provide farmers with more information about the water market.
The workshops will be held in conjunction with independent water consultancy firm Aither.
VFF Water Council chair Richard Anderson said recent factors had caused rising water prices.
‘‘The combination of drought and increasing irrigation demand is putting a lot of pressure on the water market and creating skyrocketing prices for irrigators,’’ Mr Anderson said.
‘‘These workshops will be invaluable for farmers who want to explore the drivers of water prices, learn about water purchasing and portfolio management options, and understand the state of the water market.
‘‘Farmers will hear first-hand from an independent party about the seasonal outlook for 2020 and beyond, and how to manage financial risk going forward.
‘‘I am confident farmers will walk away from these workshops armed with tools that will further assist them in their water trading decisions, helping their businesses become more sustainable and profitable.’’
The workshops will be held at:
■Numurkah: Monday, July 15 from 11am at the Shamrock Hotel, 513 Melville St.
■Tatura: Monday, July 15 from 7pm at the Tatura Hotel, 162 Hogan St.
