The Benalla Working Sheepdog Trial wrapped up on Thursday at Benalla Showgrounds, with the event exceeding organisers’ expectations.
Benalla Working Sheepdog Club president Colin Reid said the four-day event drew people from all over Victoria and NSW.
‘‘We have close on 90 dogs in the open and 51 in the novice competition, which is great for a trial like this,’’ he said.
‘‘We’ve had trialers coming from across Victoria and NSW, about 30 in total, which is pretty good.’’
After the current trial concludes the Benalla Working Sheepdog Club will head to events in Moyston and Seymour.
Mr Reid admired the sheep that were being worked.
‘‘The highlight for me has been the way the sheep have worked, which has been great,’’ he said.
‘‘Sometimes they can be very difficult to work but this week the sheep have been really good and we’ve been seeing some pretty good scores in the final.
‘‘These are the best sheepdogs around, we’ve had a few really good ones this year.’’
