The webinar will feature Wagga Wagga Agricultural Institute's Susan Orgill and Irrigated Cropping Council's trial manager Damian Jones.
Dr Orgill will focus on strategies to build soil organic carbon in cropping systems and Mr Jones will highlight local research based at Congupna, which focuses on incorporating stubbles or manures to improve soil carbon.
“Our soils have declined in soil organic carbon, but there is plenty of evidence that management practices such as crop rotations, nutrient application, pasture rotations and conservation cropping can slow or reverse this decline and can even increase soil organic carbon content,” Dr Orgill said.
Irrigated Cropping Council executive officer Charlie Aves explained the importance of the webinar.
“Soils are the foundation in our systems and farmers are continuously looking for ways to look after and improve their soil,” Dr Aves said.
“This webinar offers an opportunity for everyone to hear directly from key research scientists.”
The webinar will be held via Zoom on Monday, September 28 from 9 am to 10.30 am.
