Held at Lake Murphy near Kerang, the wetland is home to thousands of waterbirds, including the endangered Australasian bittern.
‘‘The lakes in the Kerang area are some of the most species-rich in southern Australia, and we want to show them off,’’ North Central CMA project manager Amy Russell said.
‘‘Locals and visitors appreciate the importance of these wetlands, and Breakfast with the Birds is a great opportunity to see why.’’
This year, those attending will also have the chance to listen to ecologist Matt Herring, a bittern and waterbird expert.
‘‘Matt is one of Australia’s leading bittern experts and is an awesome presenter. Having him along is a real coup,’’ Ms Russell said.
Breakfast with the Birds will be held on Sunday, February 3 from 5am to 10am in celebration of World Wetlands Day.
The event is free but registration is required to secure one of the limited spaces.
Due to limited car parking space, attendees are asked to enter the wetland from Bott Rd and follow the signs to the car park where they will then be transferred by bus from the car park to the site.
‘‘Bring a hat, water bottle, reusable coffee cup, chair if required, binoculars and a camera and we’ll supply the food,’’ Ms Russell said.
‘‘It’s also important to dress for the weather, including long pants and enclosed footwear. In the event of extreme weather, we may have to cancel, but we’ll let you know.’’
Breakfast with the Birds is supported by North Central CMA through funding from the Federal Government’s National Landcare Program.
