A Colbinabbin resident has turned up an interesting painting from the town’s past featuring the soon-to-be painted grain silos.
A community group is working on having the silos painted after getting funding in the Victorian Government’s Pick My Project campaign.
Sadie Vale has a painting by artist Barbara Duke in her house which shows the silos, the railway station and a train, probably completed in the 1980s.
Barbara was a Colbinabbin resident at the time and her mother-in-law was the railway station mistress named Una Duke. Una held this role for many years and Barbara relieved Una while on holidays.
Una’s husband Jack was employed by the railways to look after the lines, predominantly the lines between Colbinabbin and Rushworth.
This couple lived in one of the two railway residences.
Sadie said the painting was given to her by her mother because her dad was a former silo manager.
The community group hopes the project will be completed this year as it is aiming for an autumn painting.
However, the group is still to choose an artist and theme.
