Buster lives on my grandparents’ (Pat and Julie McCormick) farm in Gooram. He's mainly a sheepdog but they have sheep and beef cattle there.
He lives there to run all the sheep between different properties. He's been working ever since we got him as a pup, so he’s been born into it.
He can bring sheep in and works in the yards, he goes over the backs of the sheep and sometimes comes back under their legs.
What is his personality like?
He does like attention but being a working dog, he doesn’t get spoilt with cuddles. He's super hyperactive, loves going for runs. He's always chasing rabbits in the hay and around the sheds. He also loves swimming — you absolutely can't keep him away from water.
Does he have any funny habits?
He is a very funny dog, he has a personality that makes you laugh. He stands on the edge of the Ranger if we stop and he puts his legs up ready to jump off — he's really impatient.
What does he eat?
He eats meat, and if my Pa and brothers go hunting, he likes a bit of rabbit.
Does he get along with other dogs?
There’s another dog out there named Woody, a red and tan kelpie, who's 14 years old, so Buster has taken over his work. They get along and Woody, being an older dog, shows Buster the ropes, but Buster is so hyperactive, he doesn't really follow along.
What would you do without him?
I spend at least most weekends there helping out on the farm. Buster would work with anyone, and he’ll do 95 per cent of the work. I would be lost without him, he's a great asset for sheep work, we save so much time with him.
