However, some agricultural shows run in September and October are continuing to plan for their events.
September's Royal Melbourne Show has been cancelled and Finley Show (schedules for September 5) has been postponed.
On August 4, the Elmore Field Days committee made the tough decision to cancel.
Committee president Scott Nichol expressed disappointment they had to cancel the event for the second year running due to government restrictions, uncertainty around running events and the current COVID-19 outbreaks.
He said their main concern was the safety of the community, the volunteers, exhibitors and the public.
“We plan to be back bigger and better on October 4, 5 and 6, 2022,” Mr Nichol said.
“The Elmore Field Days would like to thank everyone involved in the field days for being so supportive and understanding during this unprecedented time.
“A big thank you to our exhibitors, committee, members, sponsors, community volunteers and the public.”
Victorian Nationals agriculture spokesman Peter Walsh has urged the Andrews Government to provide financial support to revive competitions held as part of the Royal Melbourne Show after it was cancelled for the second year in a row.
He said the cancellation robbed competitors and exhibitors of another opportunity to claim a coveted Royal Melbourne blue ribbon.
“It’s a prestigious claim to fame and unique promotional tool that helps livestock producers and food and fibre exhibitors, as well as show horse competitors and dog breeders, to stand out from the crowd,” Mr Walsh said.
He said support should be delivered for a series of COVID-safe events to ensure the show will go on.
