On September 12, northern Victoria resource manager Mark Bailey said flows into Lake Eildon and Lake Eppalock during August were well above average.
“The volume in Lake Eildon quickly climbed above 90 per cent of capacity and Goulburn-Murray Water started releases in late August to control the rate of rise. The releases are continuing,” Dr Bailey said.
Releases from Lake Hume to manage water levels also occurred throughout August and into September.
“The Eildon and Hume releases will cause deductions from Goulburn and Murray spillable water accounts respectively. The quantity will be confirmed in the September 15 seasonal determination announcement,” Dr Bailey said.
“The risk of spill from Lake Eppalock in the Campaspe system has increased to about 40 per cent.
“Lake Eppalock is currently about three-quarters full.”
Trading opportunities
Presently, allocation trade from NSW to Victoria is not possible because Victoria’s shares of Lake Hume and Dartmouth Reservoir are full.
The opportunity for allocation trade is updated with each risk of spill announcement.
People can learn more about trade opportunities on the Victorian Water Register website.
The risk of spill in the Murray, Goulburn and Campaspe systems for 2022-23 will next be updated on Monday, October 10.
