The Victorian saleyards record for lamb prices was broken at Bendigo on August 13.
The price of $298/head was paid for 26 Dorset crossbred lambs by South Australian abattoir Thomas Food International.
The lambs weighed about 45kg each and Ellis Nuttall director Rupert Fawcett Jr said seasonal conditions were driving the high prices.
‘‘Prices are seasonally driven and dry weather and a shortage of supply is driving the price,’’ he said.
Ellis Nuttall sold the pen on behalf of George Bremner, from Bullarto.
This was not the only promising price seen at the Bendigo sale, with new-season lambs topping at $255/head.
