Held at Werribee Park National Equestrian Centre in early June, Ms Cuthbert, 18, charged up the leaderboard to finish 23rd out of the field of 76.
‘‘I’m pretty proud about it all,’’ she said.
‘‘You work a big season to get there.
‘‘I was hoping (to finish) midfield. I would have been happy with that, so I was quite pleased.’’
Ms Cuthbert, who was riding in the two star level on her Irish sport horse Kirby Park Irish Tom, competed in dressage, cross country and showjumping events.
With the Melbourne International one of the major events on the equestrian calendar, Ms Cuthbert had to qualify to compete.
‘‘It’s one of the big events that you work towards,’’ she said.
‘‘You go to smaller events to get points to qualify for the Melbourne International.’’
Ms Cuthbert, who has competed in the International twice, said she was looking forward to moving up the ranks in the next year.
‘‘Hopefully I will ride the three star level next year rather than the two star level and in November in Adelaide this year, I want to ride in that level too.’’
