McNamara, who scored goals for fun while bagging back-to-back A-League Women's Golden Boot awards, is making her first move overseas.
The 23-year-old, having helped City complete the premiership and championship double, is linking up with fellow Australian Clare Wheeler at Women's Super League club Everton.
The striker has notably been entrusted with the illustrious No.9 jersey, which has been revered at Everton since record-breaking men's legend Dixie Dean donned it 100 years ago.
"It's unreal to be here, especially at Goodison Park," McNamara told Everton TV.
"It is such a special stadium. I am very lucky to be here and I am super excited to get started. Everton have such a rich history that drew me to the club.
"A big thing that drew me towards Everton was also the chance to play in the best league in the world.
"It is so competitive, any team can beat anyone. You can see the names across the division who are just amazing – they are the best players in the world. It is a huge thing for me.
"I can't wait to try to do everything for this club to win."
McNamara, the A-League Women's Young Player of the Year in 2022, topped the competition's goalscoring charts in 2024/25 and 2025/26.
The Sydney-born star was picked in Australia's 2022 Asian Cup squad before multiple knee injuries stalled her progress.
McNamara was part of the Matildas team that reached this year's Asian Cup final on home soil.
She leaves Melbourne after a five-year stint that included 38 goals in 54 appearances.
Everton's technical director Nick Cox described McNamara as a proven goalscorer who will "undoubtedly strengthen our frontline".
"We are delighted to welcome Holly," Cox said.
"She is an excellent talent who has already tasted success and showcased her qualities despite her young age."
Everton's fourth signing of the close-season, despite interest from top clubs across Europe and the USA, joins Fowler, Caitlin Foord, Ellie Carpenter and Kyra Cooney-Cross in the world's premier women's league.
McNamara was "shocked" to be awarded Everton's iconic No.9.
"I wasn't expecting it at all," she said.
"Learning about the history of the number, I think it is huge. I am super privileged.
"I will not take it for granted for one second."
